After the collapse of the subprime housing market, mortgages are making headlines nearly every day. Now that we know what was going on, it seems more important than ever to pick a solid, reliable bank or broker to issue your mortgage. Read other home owner’s reviews to see if they’re happy with their mortgage service. Did they come through with the loan on time? Will they work with you if, due to a legitimate emergency, you are unable to make a payment? These are important questions to ask. By taking on a mortgage, you are making a long term commitment, both to your new home and the issuer of your loan, so it’s important to know that you’re working with a credible, trustworthy institution.

Dental insurance is a luxury for many. If you’re lucky and receive insurance from your employer, hopefully dental insurance is included. Many people think of a dental plan as an afterthought, which is unfortunate, since major dental issues can actually require immediate medical attention and be quite costly. It’s good to read dental insurance reviews to find out if the plan you’re considering lives up to the hype. Often, as with other insurance plans, you will find out at the last minute that certain procedures aren’t covered and will cost extra. In the dentist’s chair is a pretty awkward place to have to make decisions! Read reviews to see if other customers like the dentist’s available under their plan, and also if they like the level of coverage offered.

Investing in home security can be a life changing decision. Hopefully you will never need to test it out, but you have to be 1000% confident in your decision. Reading home security reviews is a fantastic way to see how different systems responded when put to the ultimate test. A negative review is a pretty serious allegation when people’s live and valuables are at stake, so pay close attention to what other customers think of the system or service that you’re researching. Home security can also be quite expensive so it’s important to know you’re getting your money’s worth.

Now, with the latest generation of smart phones no only lets you make and receive calls anywhere, but can also find local restaurants and movie times, snap a picture, or browse retailers like Amazon and make purchases. New mobile phones keep coming out faster and faster, too. That’s why mobile phone reviews are so popular.

It’s an unfortunate fact that computers are vulnerable to malicious viruses. Nothing will ruin your day faster than losing all of your files, not to mention any personal photos, videos and music you may have saved on your PC. Getting a good anti-virus program running on your machine could save you plenty of agony in the long run. Look for a program that updates frequently, since hackers are continuously coming up with new forms of attack. Definitely check out reviews of other anti-virus software, since you may be able to learn from someone else’s mistakes. A flawed anti-virus program is the kind of thing a user will definitely report for the benefit of the community, so make sure you pick one that has been well reviewed!

It’s been said that this is a terrible century if you like privacy, and that is absolutely true. The internet has ushered in a new age of convenience, certainly–online banking, online shopping, and social networking, to name just a few new developments. But it happens so fast, it’s difficult to remember that back in the early 90’s people wouldn’t be caught dead putting sensitive personal information like an address or a credit card number online. If an unscrupulous individual gets a hold of enough of your information they can really cause problems with your life. Identity protection services are there to make sure this doesn’t happen. They give you an extra layer of security to prevent someone from stealing your credit card numbers and contact lists. If you do a lot of business online, an identity protection serice is definitely recommended.

Online education can be a great way for busy people with full-time jobs to pursue a degree or acquire a new skill set. Many schools are offering online classes, and it’s possible to get everything from an MBA to professional massage certification without ever going into a classroom. The downside is not all online classes are worth the money. That’s why it’s so important to read reviews of other student’s experiences with the online school you’re considering. Do they feel they gained value from their classes? Did they think the experience was comparable to going into a classroom? Important questions to consider are if the teacher is responsive and if the other students are participating. Whichever school you choose, Hobbies.com wishes you the best with your studies!

Surveys show that Americans rate moving as one of the most stressful experiences in their lives, whether they’re staying in the neighborhood or crossing the country. Hiring a moving company can help alleviate the stress, or it can turn your moving day into a total nightmare. One of the best moving tips anyone will ever give you is—listen up when your friends and family start talking about their experiences with movers. A few positive, first-hand reviews of local area movers are worth a hundred general moving tips. That said, there are many factors to consider when hiring a moving company:

•	Start calling around early, especially if you plan on moving during the busy summer months and you’ve got a no-compromise moving date. It’s best to start looking for moving companies at least eight weeks before the move to get the best deals. If you’re staying in the same city, you can probably get away with calling 2-4 weeks in advance.

•	If they don’t show up for a consultation, you don’t want them. It’s impossible for a moving company to determine a fair price quote without seeing what you’ve got, and any company that gives you a flat rate over the phone should be written off right away. Remember, you don’t just want your stuff moved, you want it moved in one piece and hiring a few guys to throw everything in an unmarked truck isn’t the best way to do that. As with most things in life, be highly suspicious of the low-ball moving estimate too.

•	Never give movers a deposit. Professional moving companies will ask for money before unloading the trucks, once you’ve reached your destination. Additionally, well-established moving companies will charge by weight, not by cubic feet or man-hours worked.

•	It might be easier to do it yourself. Consider your resources—do you have helpful friends and time to pack? Are you comfortable driving a rental truck? Moving yourself is not for everyone, and potential property damages could exceed the cost of hiring movers. If you decide to go the DIY route, make sure you leave yourself plenty of time. One compromise, especially if your friends don’t all have gym memberships, is to pack things yourself and hire movers for transportation.

•	Keep a room-by-room inventory notebook of your possessions. This will be invaluable when it’s time to unpack.

•	So after a long day, how much do you tip the movers? Tipping movers should be based on service. If you feel they went out of their way to help out, give them a larger tip, and if you feel you got terrible service, don’t tip at all. With that in mind, figure on tipping $40-$60 if their were one or two movers. If there were more than two, tip $20 per person and give all the money to the foreman or crew leader. It’s also nice if you have cold drinks and coffee on hand for long moves.

So you’re moving? You’re hardly alone! Here are some fun moving statistics:

•	20% of the population of the USA moves every year. That’s one out of every five Americans, or approximately 43 million people!

•	In census surveys, “New job” is the #1 reason for moving.

•	The average American will relocate 11 times in their lifetime.

•	After buying a new home, homeowners reinvest an average of 40% of their equity.

•	Half of all moves take place in the summer, between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

•	In surveys, Americans say it takes them an average of two years to feel “at home” in a new house.
