Plantronics Pulsar 590A Bluetooth Headset

Posted: 2/23/2006

"When I first saw these headphones at CES, I could tell there was something extraordinary about them. Their sleek design immediately caught my attention, and after discovering they were Bluetooth wireless, I knew they would be keepers. I recently came across the industrial design studio's website, One & Co, for these headphones and it's obvious that a considerable amount of meticulous study went into creating these masterpieces. However, design isn't all of what makes a product great, and I had to get my hands on a pair and actually see whether these performed just as good as they looked."

I've been looking for a good wireless headset to use with skype for a while, and these look to be pretty awesome, however, they should have included one more feature that would have sealed the deal for me. They should have included a bluetooth transmitter in the charging base. Since it would be sitting on my desktop next to my computer anyway, and plugged into the wall, why not also throw in a usb cable and the functionality of a usb bluetooth dongle into the charging base, and save me having to buy a bluetooth dongle?

I have bought this headset and have had it sit beside my computer for 6 months now. After buying and trying three bluetooth dongles, I simply cannot make them work. Yes, I have bought the dongles with the appropriate bluetooth applications supported. It seems that it's a crap shoot as to which dongles support which features and even dongles that say they support a given feature may may not. I give Plantronics a big thumbs down for not supplying an appropriate USB dongle with these. I rate them a "don't buy".

I have been looking for a cordless headset with two speakers for my PC for a few months and thought that I would never find a pair until someone told me about this set. So bought a pair of Plantronics Pulsar 590A and was very satisfied with the look as well as the feel of having them on my head. The downfall however was that my computer isn't bluetooth compatable so I had to purchase the Plantronics BUA-100 Bluetooth to USB Computer Adapter. It is easy enough to install and am very satisfied with the quality of sound. I am happy with them I just wish that there had been a package that the USB attachment would have come with the headset rather than having to buy the two seperate.
