Hauppauge WinTV PVR-350 Review

Posted: 5/7/2006

If you are looking to build or upgrade your HTPC case, how could you exclude a TV card? The WinTV PVR-350 allows you to record live TV, pause it, and even burn it to a CD or DVD. It appears that this may be a true all-in-one solution, so let's check it out to see if that's the case.

As of Mar 19, 2007 this product is a 64 bit brick. Hauppauge seems to be dodgy on if it ever will see 64 bit support. Read UK forums and says never yet they do not say so on their U.S. Vista Driver page. The only worth while Vista upgrade is to 64 bit, so in my opinion their 32 Vista drivers are completely useless. Same with my eVGA NV DualTV, the eVGA Nvidia tuner is also a 64 bit brick. The ATI Theater 550 Pro has both WinXP x64 and Vista x64 drivers. Out of the three cards I have, the Sapphire Theater 550 Pro was the only good buy (the other two are end of life products, bricks).

I agree, I paid $100 too much for my $100 WinTV card four years ago, and they don't even support any new OS... support in linux is lacking as well.
