Creative Zen Nano Plus Review

Posted: 9/23/2005

"As good as Apple's iPod range is, I think most of us technically savvy types are well aware that when it comes to pure value for money, they have been lagging behind their competitors in the last year. Creative in particular have introduced the better 20GB MP3 player model in the form of the Zen Touch and Zen Sleek, and now want to push for a piece of the action when it comes to those who don't require that amount of storage. So here is the Creative Labs Zen Nano Plus 512MB (also available in a 1GB version) which looks set to take on the iPod Shuffle."

I hope so! I just bought one. What I prefer about the Creative range is the drag and drop feature, so i can have my favourite albums with me at all times, without having to download them again, as with the iPod range.

The Creative Zen Nano Plus 1GB sucks! It seems like it would be a great device because it has all the cool features available within the price range I was looking for. But first of all the software that comes with it doesn't make it abundantly obvious how to transfer files to the device, although once you figure it out it is actually very easy to use. I was able to figure it out fairly quickly but I imagine someone with less computer savvy may take alot longer to figure it out...and secondly you can only transfer so many songs to the device before you start getting error messages for every song you try to upload no matter how much free space is still available! My first Nano would only allow me to upload exactly 84 songs, no more, no less, with PLENTY of room still left on it! I exchanged that one for a new one and I still have the same problem except now it stops at exactly 125 songs. I've re-installed the software and everything but the problem persists. So that's 2 down...I don't think I will be buying anymore Creative products in the future.

ive just bought a nano 512 from creative, i love it and kinda cool features, but one thins is about the mic, at first ist fine and sound good, but when ur in a concert and record the music, it sucks, to much noise... well i hope somebody out there can tell me what to do to have a better sound...

Quote: "Posted by anonymous on 10/30/2005 3:19:00 PM The Creative Zen Nano Plus 1GB sucks!" ORLY? Not so bright are ya. All you have to do is drag on drop files onto the device through windows explorer.

I have just started using the nano plus. I like the weight and most features and it probable will be fine if i can resolve a couply important operational issues. I have two problems so far. error messages during tranfer. the songs rip into the organizer library but when you go to transfer to the mp3 nano plus player, even with 700 mB free space it gives errors and will not complete the transfer. secondly, i really wanted to use the line in encoder function from a cd player but, the noise if so great you cant hear the music does anyone have any solutions, i have sent creative an email. is there anyway to move between albums with out going song to song thanks phil

Posted by anonymous on 1/23/2006 1:48:00 AM

can some one tell me if is shows on the scean what song is playing

Posted by anonymous on 2/18/2006 9:05:00 AM

The Zen Nano Plus 1GB beats the ipod Shuffle 1GB any day. I had this for nearly 2 months and have only had to use 4 batteries since I got it. Im sure people would pay a few pounds more for the Zen Nano Plus Amazon UK Prices ipod Shuffle 1Gb - £69 Creative Zen Nano Plus - £75.47

Posted by anonymous on 3/2/2006 5:09:00 AM

I am considering buying the zen nano plus and want to use it for basic music and recording meetings/lectures.. How is the mic for this? Should I go for another product? I also want something with mp3s.

Posted by anonymous on 3/12/2006 9:38:00 PM

This product is off the hook, if it can record music with it voice recorder, anything else is a snap.

I'd like to buy a Zen Nano Plus but I have one concern. A friend has a SanDisk that has an issue with playing things in order. I am NO Techie and I only want this to take along books on CD and if is't complicated to get 'em in there with the tracks in order it is of no use to me! I won't just load it up once a year but regularly with a new book from the public library. Looks great for travel with small size and AAA battery. IL Granny

i'm really having problems installing my nano plus player as it doesn't show up in windows explorer and all the fixes creative have given me either have no effect or can't be done. Anyone got any ideas. i've tried changing drive letters and all that stuff. thanks. G.

Any Nano Plus users out there having problems with the unit crashing for no apparent reason? I have mine for about 2 months. Lately when doing things like adjusting volumne control or switching tracks it crashes. I then have problems powering it up again

Posted by anonymous on 4/14/2006 10:01:00 PM

I am having problems with the song only playing for 3 or 4 seconds and then shuts down. Anyone else having this same problem that can give me advice on how to fix it!! Thanks!

Posted by anonymous on 4/23/2006 7:14:00 AM

I have the same problem with mij ZEN NANO PLUS 512MB as Posted by anonymous on 10/30/2005 3:19:00 PM '...and secondly you can only transfer so many songs to the device before you start getting error messages for every song you try to upload no matter how much free space is still available!' I can load appr. 120 songs in 360 MB and then its over although I have still 115 MB free space.

Posted by anonymous on 5/6/2006 12:42:00 AM

People having problems with not being able to load songs into the player even though it shows you still have space left. Have you tried using the intitialize function using the provided software (same as formatting within Windows)? I had the same issue as you until I did this and now I store songs till it is full.

Posted by anonymous on 5/13/2006 12:54:00 AM

Mine works fine. Issues with the nano zen not being detected by windows has to do with software, win needs sp1 or 2 and install the creative software/driver first. Read things first.

Posted by anonymous on 5/13/2006 12:56:00 AM

any body know how to use the player with limewire the imformation sharing net work my friends uses it for his nano and its fine for him i just cant figure it out

Posted by anonymous on 5/13/2006 3:06:00 PM

i bought one a week a ago and i just returned it. i had the same problems as the guys above. i looked at ipods but just decided to let tech. work a little longer before i spend money on something that may or may not work.......

Posted by anonymous on 5/14/2006 6:13:00 PM

I just figured out the problem with only being able to put a certain number of songs onto the Zen NanoPlus before getting a transfer error. You have to organize them into folder. I had 125 songs on mine, got the error whenever I tried to write to the MP3 player, but I added some folders, moved the songs into them, and now I can transfer more songs on. Try that trick and I hope it works for you.

Posted by anonymous on 5/18/2006 8:26:00 PM

Just bought mine today and already had the transfer error problem. Got a bit mad. But thanx for the post before mine. That helped. Though I'm still wondering why the error occurs...

Posted by anonymous on 5/19/2006 3:06:00 PM

I had my Zen nano plus for about three months when it started shutting itself off. I called the company and they told me to download a firmware program -- this ended up crashing the player entirely; so that the computer doesn't recognize it as a hardware device. I called the company back and they said that they would fix it, but I had to pay $25 and ship it to them. The warranty is worthless because I bought it through Circuit City and not directly from Creative. Save your money for something more dependable.

Posted by anonymous on 5/21/2006 9:01:00 PM

I have been usin a NanoPlus player for over 6 months now. I was quite happy for a few months, but for 2 months now the player has become very flaky. It does an auto power off after playing only for a few minutes. This happens even when the battery is brand new. I actually wasted lots of batteries, intially throwing them thinking they were out of juice. Now the device is essentially useless to me, since I can't play it for any extended lenght of time.

Posted by anonymous on 5/22/2006 2:11:00 AM

I just got mine for my b-day today, i love it. Has everything i need. I've transfered about 1G of files on to it with no problems. It works fine in my linux distro too FC4 woot!

Posted by anonymous on 5/26/2006 1:36:00 PM

Got to the creative web site and read the forum there! There are known issues with this and customer service is terrible!!

Posted by anonymous on 5/27/2006 9:24:00 AM

The Last few post were correct. Delete one or two songs afte you get the transfer error. Create a new folder and place your songs in there. I was able to get exactly 125 song per folder and no more. The root directory of the Player counts each folder as a file so I could Have a maximum of 125 Items including the folders on the root. Now I can place the full 1GB on my device

Posted by anonymous on 6/1/2006 1:00:00 AM

I returned my first nao plus 1 GB after 3 weeks, then bought a new one for $69 at Malfart. Both units have problems with the ear pieces or the amp inside as I can hear very little bass after a couple of weeks. I also have to turn the volume to maximum to hear anything.

Posted by anonymous on 6/2/2006 10:49:00 PM

For all you people that can't get all the space out of your ZEN Nano Plus. All you have to do is get rid of one then add a new folder in replace of it. Then you can transfer the rest of your music into that folder and it will use all the space.

Posted by anonymous on 6/3/2006 6:14:00 PM

damnit it sucks i havent even touched one and it sucks get the 60gb ipod video like i have or the 1gb nano theyre way better than this crap

I bought a Creative Zen Nano player 512MB. After two weeks the battery ran out and i recharged it and after that the player wont start. i tried new batteries. the blue screen lights up and goes off again. i bought it in Bangkok and live in india. How do i return it? Will i get the warranty. Can anyone help?? Will it work again??

Posted by anonymous on 6/7/2006 12:42:00 AM

thanks for help guys. It saved me alot of time and grief.

Posted by anonymous on 6/19/2006 10:49:00 AM

Hello ! I to am having issues with this player. Fair enuff about the directory structures limitiation, but this powering off is a load of crap. I wouldnt buy another creative device because of the problems I have had with this, and in truth, I was quite loyal to the brand having had quality products from them in the past. I have tried a variety of firmware and am still having trouble with it.

Posted by anonymous on 6/20/2006 11:04:00 PM

shuts down after playing songs for about 3 seconds. Happens with any songs transferred w/ Windows Media Player. Doesn't play my WMA files. Does work for MP3s if you use MusicMatch Jukebox but that doesn't cut it. Money poorly spent. Returning immediately.

Posted by anonymous on 7/20/2006 5:29:00 PM

k does it hav folders, u know like u click on an artist n all their songs come up p.s. sry not 2 good at exspaining

Posted by anonymous on 7/23/2006 12:34:00 PM

For the best of the best quality of sound, this is the best product if you want a 1GB mp3 player! I swear you will feel as if you are in a game...I mean a concert!

Posted by anonymous on 7/24/2006 12:47:00 AM

I can't figure out how to use it as a voice recorder. I select "Microphone" from the menu, and then don't know how to proceed. Anyone able to help?

Posted by anonymous on 8/2/2006 12:44:00 AM

I love my Zen Nano Plus 512MB. I have been using it for over 6 months and have had NO PROBLEMS with it! Files transfer easily with Windows Explorer, but I prefer Real Player since it will also convert songs to a lower bit rate (to hold more). (Had ~250 songs in the root folder) Even upgrading the firmware was effortless. My only complaint is that it doesn't retain the shuffle order after it is powered down.

Posted by anonymous on 8/2/2006 12:50:00 AM

To use the "microphone" after selecting microphone from the menu, Push the play/pause button once and it will start recording. Press it a second time to stop it. Each series of pressing the button will create a new voc###.wav file. To exit this, press the scoll button and choose a different mode.

Posted by anonymous on 8/3/2006 8:00:00 PM

The power-off problem withthe Zen Nano Plus appears to occur with new batteries only. I have 3 in my house. Two work fine. The third powers off when the backlight goes off. When I replacedthe new batteries with "used" batteries it works fine. One post on the Creative Forum recommends using rechargable batteries. That poster claims the voltage is about 1.2 versus the 1.5 of a new AA. The current newest firmware does not fix the problem.

Posted by anonymous on 8/16/2006 12:01:00 AM

I have a zen Nano for the past two months and have the power issues. If keeps shutting down until the new battery gets less power. Sad that Creative puts out a product that cannot operate with batteries right out of the box.

Posted by anonymous on 8/18/2006 7:36:00 PM

A NOTE TO POTENTIAL BUYERS: The sound quality is not that good at first listen, at least depending on your personal preference. HOWEVER, if you modify the EQ the sound quality can be amazing! I bought one a few days ago and so far love it! As long as you are careful with it, and organize everything into folders, it seems to work well. I am saying this after buying and returning several other players, so this is not a meaningless comment!

Posted by anonymous on 8/20/2006 12:56:00 AM

It just dosent work. Multiple problems, ok on some new xp systems, wont recognize on others makes no sense

Posted by anonymous on 8/22/2006 4:27:00 PM

erm, i cant seem to get my microphone to work, when i try to use it, i get an error, somebody help me? please. overall i find the zen nano plus to be great.

Posted by anonymous on 8/25/2006 10:34:00 PM

Man! With all of those comments of which more than 50% are negative, I don't know anymore if I have to buy a CReative Zen Nano Plus or an iPod Nano!

Posted by anonymous on 8/25/2006 10:54:00 PM

People only tend to comment if they have a bad comment. Human nature.

Posted by anonymous on 8/28/2006 9:21:00 PM

i have a blue zen nano plus and ilike it but the only thing that doesnt appeal to me so much, is no charger just running on battery power of AAA.

Posted by anonymous on 8/29/2006 6:09:00 AM

hi there, i bought a creative zen nano 512mb a little under a year ago, no problems until recently. It shuts down when i change the volume on it. The volume bar stays on screen for about 5 seconds and then shuts down - very annoying! Any ideas as to what the problem is/how to fix it?

Posted by anonymous on 9/6/2006 8:06:00 AM

im so angry. i had my 1 GB nano plus for a month. now it keeps shutting off on me. at random.

Posted by anonymous on 9/12/2006 4:06:00 PM

I can't figure the thing out, can anyone give me step by step thing on how to work it starting with installing it and everything.

Posted by anonymous on 9/13/2006 8:19:00 AM

I have had the nano plus one week, and I have stopped using it. It gets through more than one battery a day, and shuts down if you try to operate the contols (i.e. change volume). A very disappointing product. I bought from Amazon UK who say they will exchange if the manufaturer is unhelpful. I strongly suspect that I mught have to do that.

Posted by anonymous on 9/17/2006 12:38:00 AM

Had seven months of great utility on the Zen Nano 512. Now it shuts off almost instantly, sometimes one or two songs in. Tried all of the battery tricks. Nothing more frustrating than starting a run/exercise, then lose your music. My daughter taunts me about not buying an IPOD in the first place.

Posted by anonymous on 9/24/2006 11:18:00 PM

so is there a solution to shutting down after all? Somehow Creative doesnt have ANY solution, or doesnt even mention this huge problem on its site!!

Posted by anonymous on 9/25/2006 10:04:00 PM

My songs show up on the organizer for the zen nano plus, but they don't show up on the player itself. what should I do? No shutoff problems but man are the earbuds enormous.

Posted by anonymous on 9/27/2006 7:07:00 PM

Creative has the fix for the problem of shutting down on its page!!

Posted by anonymous on 10/11/2006 2:59:00 AM

my display crystal has cracked and half of the screen is now black and un readable. repair or garbage? Creative 1gb nano. Haven't used it long enogh to experiance all these other wonderful problems.

Posted by anonymous on 10/27/2006 12:29:00 PM

I bought a 1GB Creative Nano, the first couple of hours i had it it worked fine. Then it started turning off more and more often every time, usually when i pressed the control buttons. then 3 days later, it wouldnt even turn on again. i tried new batteries and stuff. and still nothing. My computer still recognises the player and i can still download songs to it. But it wont turn on. ( Oh yeah, when its connected to my computer, the LCD screen works well, so i doubt its completely unfunctional ) Anyone have any idea whats wrong with it.

Posted by anonymous on 11/1/2006 10:50:00 PM

can u just copy and paste songs from limewire to the zen nano plus device or do u have to download the stupid disk they give u

Posted by anonymous on 11/5/2006 9:52:00 PM

this shit sucks like in the 3 days i bought it when i turned it on it just said creative and didnt do anything until i toke the batterie of, then it changed it said creative then changed to zen nano and had a blue light for like 2 seconds and turns of and now thats all it does and it wont work

Posted by ian on 11/6/2006 8:18:00 AM

Sounds to me like you should return it to the store, you obviously have a defective one.

Posted by anonymous on 11/9/2006 8:58:00 AM

I bought the nano and it worke for the first few week. Then it started to not play sertain songs. Then it started not to turn on. after 3 weeks it broke and wont turn on. iv change the batteries several times and it still did not work. i think its a peice of crap and a wast of money.

Posted by anonymous on 11/15/2006 10:46:00 AM

Posted by anonymous on 11/21/2006 6:58:00 PM

I cant start my Zen nano plus :(

Posted by anonymous on 11/22/2006 3:32:00 PM

I bought the Nano Plus 1GB and it worked for a few months. Then I had trouble copying additional files when there was plenty of space left. Downloaded and upgraded firmware, then stupid thing died. That sucked. However, my daughter also has same exact one. Encountered same problem not being able to add files when half a gig was still left. Found out that it would only take so many files (or so much file size, not sure which one) on the root. I was able to copy another 400MB of files to the music folder. Seems to be a problem with the file system. One super cool feature of this little guy (say a prayer it doesn't die soon) is the MP3 recorder. With the line in, I can play from a music source (my GuitarPort for example), plug in to line in on the Nano, and record MP3 files at up to 160K. With the line in, I get excellent quality MP3s - very convenient.

Posted by anonymous on 12/5/2006 6:08:00 PM

The Creative Nano sucks. 4 hrs and 2 calls to tech suppoert and the unit still will not be recognized by my computer. One of the Tech support help points was to use one of the USB ports on the BACK of the computer rather than the front (not in the instructions). They say that the ports on the back of computers are more capable that those on the front (?). I asked them why they would design a device - with a 6 inch cable - that required you to crawl under your desk to plug it in each time, when there is a perfectly good port (that works for every other plug-in device I have) on the front? All I got was a sheepish, 'yeah, I know' from the techie. Still did not work on the rear port. Then they wanted me to go in and do some monkey work with the computer's register. Forget it. It goes back. It's like buying a radio for your car and then being told you need to work on the transmission to get the radio to turn on. What a piece of crap.

Posted by anonymous on 12/8/2006 5:34:00 AM

No problems so far with de device, although solution to auto power-off problem would be a nice read. You can never be too sure what can happen in the future.

Posted by anonymous on 12/13/2006 8:33:00 PM

creative software i think is not stable, i bought 1gb novu v200 after 2 months it crushes first i cant play mp3, only wma, but the problem is it can play only 1 song then stop and shut off.i return to the store they give me zen nano plus..but still after 5 mos. another problem with the software.i turn off in recording state.when i turn on after a second moving to music shut down..can somebody help this problem..

Posted by anonymous on 12/24/2006 7:08:00 AM

I have a Creative Zen Nano Plus (1 GB) which I plugged into the computer before I installed the software. Ive now installed the software and the computer still doesnt recognise the player. I am going to send this back to amazon and apply for a refund. Im not happy with this at all,I might just stick to my Sony minidisc player which has payed for itself many times over.

Posted by anonymous on 12/26/2006 12:25:00 AM

ZEN NANO 1GB Plus (XPsp2) Filled to 980mb no prob. Simple to transfer files with or without software. found 1 mp3 that wouldnt ff past 16 seconds (but would play fine), So what, though? U can just convert it again. Great navigation/menues/song display. built in mic doesn't sound too good, ok for little voice messages. The line-in sounds ok, but you only have a max bitrate of 160k when recording. 256k or 320k. Volumes good, but not any overhead for quieter mp3's. Overall sound.. if i leave it on "Jazz" EQ preset its fine.. otherwise its a bit mid-rangey/harsh 5-band eq for tweaking more, but bass is only 62khz and high is 16,000k. i want lower lowers and higher highs. but it sounds good. I love the tiny little thing so far.

Posted by anonymous on 12/26/2006 9:10:00 AM

^(*no 256k or 320k bitrate for recording line-in)

Posted by anonymous on 12/26/2006 9:32:00 AM

yeah.. stock earbuds are painfully large... and I have a big head. they're good lookin, sound fine, but uncomfortable.

Posted by anonymous on 12/26/2006 7:09:00 PM

I received Zen Nano Plus 1GB for an early Christmas present and I must say that I liked it because of its size, easy to stuff into my pocket. Also really easy to operate, and the battery life of this device is good, I use up 1 battery every 1-2 weeks depending on how bored i am at home. The overall sound... is pretty much alright but when I broke the earphones and replaced it with a better one the sound was a LOT better.. Its the perfect player for me small, lightweight, the only player that hasn't been broken by my carelessness... yet so far I really like Zen Nano Plus its not that bad could make some improvements on recording but its a satisfactory player in my opinion

Posted by anonymous on 12/29/2006 5:09:00 PM

I have a Zen Nano Plus 512MB that is recognised by my laptop but not my desk top. I suspect CREATIVE are aware that the USB interface within the device is underdeveloped and so does not communicate with some USB ports. Unless CREATIVE can give an assurance that this is not the case anyone experiencing this problem should return their player as it is not fit for purpose.

Posted by anonymous on 12/29/2006 6:38:00 PM

i am having the same problem as 12/29/06 post. it is recongized by my dell desktop at work with no problems. but on my desktop at home w/asus motherboard it freezes everytime i plug the damn thing in!!!!

Posted by anonymous on 1/2/2007 10:53:00 PM

I purcahsed a Creative Mp3 player. I am happy with it, except for one little problem. I read the little booklet that comes along with the Mp3 player, and it says that the cord(s) in the product can cause cancer or birth defects. Does only the usb cord cause cancer, or do the earphones do too? If so, how serious is this? Should I be worried?

Posted by anonymous on 1/4/2007 12:55:00 PM

Got 1GB Nano for my birthday a few weeks ago, first off, the battery was almost dead when I got it. So I got a new batery, and it seemed to work fine (as in, it turned on, the radio and mic worked). Then I connected it to my laptop running XP (with all the updates, after installing supplied software). Recognised it ok in explorer, and the software recognised it as well. But when I tried to transfer files, Windows hung for ~3 minutes before returning with a connection error. Interestingly, when I opened the player like a USB memory stick, right clicked and said "New text document" it created it, and I was able to save it fine. Tried it on another XP machine (fully updated) with same results, and also on a Linux machine, where it mounted fine, but while trying to cp, after ~ 3 minutes the Nano umounted itself and I got a "file does not exist" type error. Have sent it back for a replacement, hopefully that will work.

I liked mine when it *worked*--well enough to buy another when it died. I got my first Creative Zen Nano for a gift last summer. Installed it and transferred podcasts and audible.com books with no problem. Battery life was great and operation was reasonable, though the scroll-select is a bit weird to use and the documentation provided for understanding the menus is virutally nonexistent. However, about a month ago, I plugged the Nano into my laptop to transfer another podcast and it was not recognized by the computer. Moreover, after that, every time I tried turning the Nano on, it immediately turned itself off. On the Creative Zen forums, I read about resetting it by taking the battery out, waiting a minute, then holding the ON button on while reinserting the battery. After that, Zen Nano #1 wouldn't turn on at ALL. By this time, I had already invested $40 in audible.com books that I had yet to listen to and another $60 in portable speakers, so when I saw the same model on sale before Christmas for $50, I picked it up. Wasn't quite sure whether to keep it or not but today was the deadline for returning it, so I decided to keep it and opened the package. Same damn thing happened. As soon as I attached it to the laptop, the laptop froze. Then something got written over to Windows so that when I restarted my computer, it issued this loud beeping sound and I had to reset it to the last known working configuration. Then the new Nano started immediately turning itself off after starting and showing me the Creative splash screen. At this point I returned it. I've invested enough in things to use with an MP3 that I'll get another, but I don't think I'll be trying a Creative Zen again.

I have had my ZEN NANO for 1 year. Then I start getting the flaky power shutdowns. so I start surfing lookin for an answer. One common answer I got was "upgrade the firmware." Well I thought "why would it go now.. I've never done anything out of the ordinary" Anyway long story short DON'T I repeat DON'T update the FIRMWARE until you check one vital thing. Connect your NANO if it shows up in Windows- so far so good- open the the drive whether it is d: or e: whatever. Then right click on the NANO drive and go to properties you should get a screen that says "Removable Disk X: Properties" FILE SYSTEM SHOULD BE FAT if it is FAT32 you may get more space but you also set yourself up for all sorts of weird issues. I backed up my mp3's formatted my NANO to FAT and reloaded it, found I didn't have enuff room for 1 song, but I haven't had a random shutdown since i reformatted.....

I purchased a 1GB Zen Nano Plus as a Xmas present for my wife. I loaded 500mb of music and then it refused to take any more. I also had the same problem when using my laptop. I tried reloading the software/driver/firmware on the advice of the Creative helpline but it would not load any more music either from Windows Explorer nor the Creative organiser. My computer now does not recognise the Nano Plus and the only thing that now shows on the player is the Creative screen. I am sending it back to Amazon for a refund. How can Creative sell this gear when it turns out that it has well documented instabilities?

I just bought a Zen Nano Plus 1GB yesterday. My Gateway work laptop sees it fine. My home Sony laptop won't see it and it just freezes my computer up. Called Creative Tech today and the person sent me a link to the standard trouble shooting stuff. Nothing helped. Has anyone gotten their computer to SEE the Nano Plus after some tweeking and tweeking?

I have purchased Zen Nano Plus 256 mb from Amazon and it worked rather well just until after the 1 year warrenty ran out. The problem is that it does not start right away. After many attempts, it sometimes starts and works. When I turn it off and try to start, the same story. However, I can still connect it to the computer to down or upload songs. Soon after disconnecting from the computer it starts fine. However, the problem sets in later. Occasionally it shuts itself off too. I have tried reloading the old firmware and even upgrading the firmware, but the problem persists.

I had mine for a year now and when I pause or turn it off, approx half of my songs turn into squealing and static. P.O.S.

I have exactly the same problem as detailed here with the capacity of a 1Gb Nano Plus (used with XPSP2). It bombs with still 680Mb of space left. I have tried everything (updated firmware, formatted to FAT 32 and FAT, used DOS type 8.3 file names with no caps, used multiple directories) and it just hangs everything when you try and get pas about 350Mb of stuff on it. It clearly is not fit for purpose and is not a 1Gb device, it isn't even a 512Mb device. I shall be sending it back after wasting hours of my life on this piece of crap. Don't touch it with long handled plastic bargepole!

My Nano worked fine for a long time but it has started freezing up upon startup. Is there a way to reset to cure this problem?

Posted by anonymous on 2/13/2007 1:29:00 PM

I have had the Zen plus for 1 day and it had done all of the above: turned off automatically, not recognized by my lap top, only loaded 1 book. Thanks to all of your comments I will not wait but will return it today!!!

My problem is this: when I turn on my Nano Zen it immediately starts playing the first song without any prompting. This is annoying. I want to be able to make a choice as to how it functions but this one just starts in automatically playing the first track.

down loaded files show up on desktop when opened but cant be found when playing the nano plus itself

Posted by anonymous on 3/8/2007 5:42:00 PM

yeah, i read in the booklet too that the cords that come with this thing are know to california to cause cancer, birth defects, etc. i'm worried.

I has some real issues getting XP-Pro and the Zen nano plus to fully communicate via USB. Drivers/firmware etc... just couldn't get them to jive. But my Linux PC worked with it like a charm, so that's what I use to rip/drag/drop to the zen nano. So peoples windows issues are for real, creative needs to look into this. I couldnt' determine if the problem was XP , Nano, or machine itself. I wanted to suspect the wireless adapter as maybe the intruder. Since I have an alternative to use, I didn't dig any further.

On my new ZEN NANO PLUS i cant seem to reach all 63 of my songs, though my computer says all the songs were loaded on. When I went to switch folders only some songs (2) i was able to find/access how can i fing my other songs?

Posted by anonymous on 3/31/2007 8:51:00 PM

Now my comp says there are 63 songs while my mps saysthereare 53! How do i organize my songs inot folders?!? Please help!!!!!!!!!

Posted by anonymous on 4/10/2007 1:33:00 PM

My Zen Nano 512 is EMPTY, and it will not even let me drag in 1 file. I tried to drag it right on the drive and also in a folder. It used to just let me put around 14 songs on there (WAY under the 512 limit). Now nothing. I have also had the powering off problem. DO NOT buy this if you are considering. It seems like you are bound to have one or more of these problems eventually.

how do you make extra folders for the nano plus, i have exactly 96 songs which i know damn well it can hold more

Posted by anonymous on 4/17/2007 12:07:00 PM

How do u make new folders? well, it's really easy. Open up the player in windows explorer, right click on a blank space, and go to "new", "folder". idk if that's wat u were asking...

Posted by anonymous on 4/17/2007 12:28:00 PM

has had every problem listed on this page and more, the LCD wasn't even showing me the song, it was scrolling something like: !!@$#@DGHJ##4453*. I've been trying for weeks to fix it but I couldn't explain how b/c the majority of ppl wouldn't have a clue wat i'm talking about. anyway, i've been trying everything i can think of, and the only thing that finally fixed every bug that there was, was upgrading the firmware.

Posted by anonymous on 4/17/2007 12:30:00 PM

anonymous on 4/10/2007 1:33:00 PM- if u haven't already returned it, then try formatting the player to either FAT or FAT32, it doesn't really matter which, just so long as it's formatted. if that doesn't work, go to the creative support page and download the firmware update.

Okay, I need some help. I've had my zen nano plus since Christmas 2005. Just a few days ago, I tried to put on 6 songs, but it wouldn't work. I tried like, 1000 times! I tried making new folders, but I don't know if I did it right or not. I copied the music in the music folder and put it in a new folder. But I have a 1G and it is supposed to hold 500 songs, but only has 50. 17 are encoded. PLEASE HELP!

I have a problem with my nano plus 512mb. Every time I turn it on and play a song for about 10 seconds it automatically turns off by itself. The whole mp3 is basically useless. I might as well throw it in the garbage. What a waste.
